I'm not making reasons to get it. I just know there are no private aquarists in my area with tanks REMOTELY close to housing one. Other than one of my good friends who has a 7x2x2 I know no one( nor does the pet shop I got it from) with a tank or pond big enough. Sorry for wanting to give an animal a better life for atleast a year or 2. Now that I have said fish I do plan on making a pond. I've already gotten the go ahead from my mother to build a pond in their basement. My dad has
Been wanting a larger aquarium anyway so I suggested a pond for the basement for catfish and she went for
it so my plan is:
Grow him out in my 72 til he's big enough to go with my Oscar n Sevs in the 220. Keep him in the 220 as long as I can.I'll be building the pond this summer so it should be ready for him by next fall. If by chance he is a super freak grower my dad has about a 500 gallon outdoor pond I could house
him in this summer.

Atleast I am giving him a chance. And I also have a plan for when he gets bigger. I'm not just buying it, throwing
It in my 55, letting it outgrow it and then releasing it or leaving it in the small tank.

Thanks for the intex pool idea. I'm pretty sure we already have an old one I could clean well and set up.

For when he gets a bit too big for the 220g, a VERY cheap alternative to a outdoor pond or say an actually 1000-2000+gallon tank, would be an Intex Pool. That is if you have the room to put one in your house somewhere. I am lucky enough to have an extra, ground-level room large enough and unused that I will be putting a 10'x30" intex to house my RTC once he outgrows my 180g.

10' Pool: Under $200.

Awesome idea! You gotta upload pics if it works out :)

Will do! Its a few months out still... but trust me, I will document it well! I want to make sure it gets out there that my RTC is doing great in a good home, then hopefully some of the naysayers out there will see that not everybody who buys one at 1-2" and doesnt have a 1000000000 gallon tank READY for them are still completely capable of housing them properly!

I plan on revisiting bigrich's thread about his fishroom, where he has pictures and descriptions on how to build large 55g garbage can filters filled with bioballs.

I want more catfish, so I may put this plan into effect sooner than when he NEEDS to be upgraded!

My opinion, it all depends on what you plan to feed it and the temp of the water. The colder the water the slower it will grow and obviously the less you feed it the slower it will grow. Some folks like to power feed their cats to get them big fast, some folks feed every other day or twice a week. I feed my fish every other day. Im sure if you raised your temps to 89 degrees or so and power fed the cat, he will grow fast. You have well over a year. If plans fall through to build a pond, you can simply sell it, their problem solved for everyone saying your tank is too small. Very few of us have our fish for life of the fish, very rarely do the fish reach their true potential life size. So it's safe to say he has a good while.

What I dont understand is, I'm in the pbass section a lot, I dont recall recently seeing anyone complain to me or anyone else about tank size and their pbass. I have a tem in with many pbass and south americans. You think a full grown tem would fit in my tank? Not at all, or how about the other pbass? They would all be a tight fit together. Theres another well known mfk guy on here with a tank full of super rare Xingu pbass with parrots, those bass as well get longer than 24" in their lifetime but yet I dont see any complaining to him either. But yet someone asks a question about a 1" fish in 220 gallon aquarium and everyone freaks out. I just dont understand the problem here......

Here he is... All 1" of him
