If you use a Python Water Change system, then I have a question for you..

I'm debating going to this system as my back is starting to give with this bucket system.

But tell me this. When the heck do you put the dechlorinator in? How can it mix well enough if you just dump it in the tank? I don't get it.

Help me out here..

You can add dechlorinator to the tank once you have removed the waste water. Some add it after the water, but that seems pretty risky to me.

The affect of chlorine(and choloramine) on fish increases with exposure time. The de-chorinator neutralization occurs faster than the chlorine effects the fish.

Honestly I drain 50% and start filling back up and dose for half the tank volume and then wait till it fills up to 75% then add more and one last dose when it starts going into my overflows. Never lost a fish and they never get stressed. My loaches love water changes.

I've not got a sump so will it drag straight through my filters and kill the good bacteria?

From what I understand, if you are pumping tap water directly into the tank, many manufacturers recommend that your add enough of their product to dechlorinate the entire tank, not just the gallons of water you are adding.

I use my python system almost nightly, but I only use it to collect visible waste on the bottom of the tanks. For pulling out gallons of water, I still favor my 1" inner diameter tubing and my home depot buckets. I just couldn't justify the wasted water any longer (but I do have several large tanks now). I also just turned 30, so I can't complain about lifting the 5 gallon buckets......yet!

ps - love the pic of the gulper cat in your avatar cambo.
