Do dwarf gourami need air pump oxygen? With air pump oxygen and no air pump oxygen wh

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dwarf gouramis are members of the anabantoid family of fish. These labyrinth fish have a special organ which enables them to get oxygen from the air. Due to this fact, you don't need an air pump when keeping these fish. However, an air pump does increase the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water. So it is up to you whether or not you want to use one.

With or without air pump oxygen which is better for your oppinion?

For the gouramis, it wouldn't really make a difference. However, with an air pump, using pure oxygen isn't necessary. The action of the air bubbles breaking the surface tension of the water is what allows oxygen to enter the water column.

Well then the air pump oxygen for 5 gouramis is not needed but i use it for plants instead then...

Do plants in tank need oxygen?

Plants need carbon dioxide added if your tank is extra heavily planted. The plants will actually give off oxygen, their biological process is the opposite of that of animals.

Just make sure you leave an area with not much water movements for the gouramis to do what they usually do, create bubble nests among plants. I had a male dwarf gourami that was very obnoxious. Attacked my hand when I dipped in the pond. He made a bubble nest using several stripped plant materials.
