I will be in fl from Feb 11-18 also looking for any good tips to catch some cool exotic stuff not found in nj. Hopefully renting a boat on lake okeechobee so we can catch some huge bass but will also be down in south florida looking for peacock bass etc. I'm curious if they'll be around at this time. It's such a daunting place to fish because when you look at the map pretty much all of south florida is water. Is live bait a guarantee for exotics down there? Also curious of the cost of live bait down there. How much are those huge golden shiners? Also what about normal shiners, killies, etc?

yes, anytime of year you can catch exotics just avoid going right after a cold snap. may-sept. is the best time though. Just went last week and only caught 12 pbass with the biggest being 22"
best bet for oscars and mayans is the tamiami canal in the everglades east of the water control device in big cypress preserve.. jaguars best in C-4 west of casino..
midas either snapper creek canal or C-104 which is clear and you can easily spot them. Be warned they are the hardest to catch. use live minnows for best chance..
and yes, golden shiners are a sure thing. i've never seen a Pbass resist one especially if they're in a group..
hope this helps

they were released.

there's nothing wrong with catching LMB...they are fun as well.
be careful doing this! it is very much illegal to transport live exotics including cichla.. FWC will issue you a notice to apear in court.. also your over your limit of 2 in possesion so each of those would've cost you 500 an piece in fines

Pretty sure there's no bag limit on any cichlids other than pbass
