Hoplias Malabaracus eating habits?

So just an update, my wolf is eating :). Right now I'm recreating "nature", I buy feeders, I keep them in a 10g tank and only feed them massivore. Then I feed the goldies to the wolf so he has the extra nutrients (trust me they are there these goldfish are fat beyond belief after the feeding). This is just temporary, I just wanted to make sure he was comfortable eating in the tank, soon I'll be trying to get him used to mussels and shrimp, but ya I had bought a dozen of these feeders when i got the fish so I'm just gona finish them off (4 more). Thanks again for all the people who gave me tips and help!

lolol goldfish do more harm than good for any fish to eat. They carry this nutricient definciency disease thing called thiaminase. it can kill the fish if there is too much of it. It would just stick to the traditional and healthy pellets and fish fillet. Plus the feeders can trigger aggresion in the wolf. You wouldn't like that!

Hmm i did not know they were bad to that extent. Could i feed the wolf sole fillets?

When my mala was younger, and more fun, I had him essentially hand-trained. Everyone loved to watch because they were positive I was going to lose a finger. He always hit REALLY HARD too. The way I got him to finally accept non-live food was with stuffed silversides. Initially it was the small/medium ones, and I'd stuff them with carnivore sticks.

Now, unfortunately, he's a boring old man of a fish who sits under a log in my 180 most of the time. He has a spine injury, so I can't be too mad at him for his laziness. In his prime though, his personality and ferociousness out-shined even my 24" silver aro (who was also hand-fed nightly).

Good luck with breaking your fish off live, if that's the route you choose to take. Of the piscivore's that I've kept, my mala was one of the easiest to convert though.
 
Imo give it a week(depends on how you had it for) All the wolves I raised they were not picky at all. Ate anything I dropped in the tank.
 
Cool! What dead fish should i avoid feeding it? I've looked up diets and all people seem to say is dead fish, shrimp, krestations etc. But not what to avoid

fillets, shrimp and pellets. That'll give you a healthy wolf.

not dumb at all. I do it just because my usually spits out the shell anyways. But, the shell is essetially very healthy for the wolf because it has alot of nutrients in it. Worth to try both. Even better, i would go to the super market and buy some smaller frsh fish that's not smelt.
