anyone try changing a 55 gal the old fashioned way? with short hose and bucket? i'm telling you, back breaking work.

That's all I do, on the 75 and 55. Then again I'm young still so its not that bad for me.

23 and i still do the three 5 gallon pale bucket method.. but my back is getting bad.. so think i may invest in something better.

I use the backflush port and garden hose method. The bucket method doesn't work with a tank that is taller than ones head.
