Thanks for all of the replies everyone! I can't believe this thread has gotten eight pages of replies and over 2000 views in a month. I'm glad to see that old Mad Max is so well received. 
It's an entry level DSLR, a Nikon d5100. For pics of my fish I like to use a 50mm f1.8 prime lens. I have the camera set to a +1 exposure compensation and I fire it on 1/200th shutter, f5.6-f9 depending on where he is in the water column and ISO 320. I really enjoy photography and I like taking pictures of my fish because I find them to be very challenging to photograph. Now that I'm figuring out how to get decent pictures by properly configuring the thing BEHIND the camera, I want to get a proper macro lens in order to get some really good close ups of the fish. There's only so much you can do with a non macro lens IMO. I can get sharp, clear crops from the full size pictures, but its not the same as a true 1:1 reproduction ratio. I really want to step up to a 35mm full frame DSLR soon, I'm considering a Nikon d600.
Yeah he does. I was worried that with the white sand he wouldn't show the dark colors that hes developing, but that doesn't seem to really be happening. I guess if he's gonna turn black he's gonna turn black regardless of his substrate. lol. He does look good though! Thanks man!
I'm assuming you mean Max and the arowana, Drogo? If so, I've had Drogo for about a month. They've had one fight that Drogo started and Max finished, but for the most part they get along very well. They even school together.
