I picked up a few bichirs from a lfs a few months back with cloudy eyes. They were trade ins. I have not had any luck clearing the eyes. Not spreading to the other bichirs in the same tank. They are not blind but definitely have impaired sight. Any ideas as to a cure or the root cause of the problem would be appreciated.

Yea it can be hard to clear, route cause is bad water quality or very bright lighting, try antibiotics if they are available to you but I would up the temp to just above 80f add aquarium salt, feed less and an extra or bigger % water change to keep water pristine

Tried all the above methods.spent a month in a qt tank and were dosed with antibiotics. Temp is at 83 regular 30percent water change tried fasting as well. I never thought of lights but what about a long trip in a bucket with cold temps possibly very high ammonia levels those were the condition they came in as according to the lfs.

i have picked up several bichirs from people on craigslist and a few of them were purchased in the winter time and transfered by bucket where the water temp dropped much lower then i would have preferred before i was able to get them home. in several cases they had cloudy eyes for about a day or two but then it cleared up.

it seems to be a water quality or temperature thing...i have no idea why yours wouldn't have cleared up by now.

83 degrees seems to be a little on the hot side. I keep mine between 78 and 80.

I just added salt in every water change then poof! Its gone.

Had to download the app but here is a couple recent pics of the eye problem

I don't know then sorry, did you use a broad spectrum antibiotic? If you can get it EsHa 2000 has fixed all of the stubborn problems I have had, as long as its not getting worse just try to persevere

Yea it is to hot as a constant temp but for a week or 2 it will help help kill off certain nasty bacteria as well as speed up metabolism to help them heal faster.
