Is FX5 the best?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Considering you can buy and Eheim Pro 3 2080 or and Eheim Classic 2262 for about $50-60 more then an FX5 i would most definitely say that an FX5 is definately not the best bang for buck, is an unreliable poor quality filter compared to the Eheims!

Just search the web for stories about broken FX5....they are 10:1, also, check this out:

particularly this section:

EDIT : MARCH 2008
I've had no less then 5 ...yep 5 out of 6 FX5's exhibit problems with simply stopping all together or clogging after only a couple of weeks resulting in very slow flowrates.
I now have only 1 FX5 in operation out of the original 6.
I have had zero problems or issues with the Eheims.
I must conclude that the Fluvals are not nearly the same quality as the Eheims.

I think that says it all really!

This is why I don't use their filter pads. I just use bio media in the center baskets.

It sucks...the fx5 is better, check the specs, less media capacity and slower flow....and it's Fluval...

Not saying its good or bad but having a look on a website to find a new product is a nice find, regardless of its capabilities. I agree though, it does suck when it needs to and also pumps water back into the tank. lol. Just had to.
