I have a 6 inch peacock eel in my 20 gal and i am thinking about changing up the tank to adding different stuff. I am currently thinking about freezing the eel and feeding it to my peacock bass and crayfish. Is freezing the most humane way to kill a fish?

Thanks :)

You have no one to give yhe fish too, before killing it?

Freezing is not humane.

Clove oil is the way to go, but the reason for it seems wrong imho.

im sure theres gotta be a LFS thatll take it off your hands....especially if your just gonna kill it. i would never just kill a fish because i want to change stock. post a craigslist ad, or try some local fish stores.....seriously, dont kill it.

While I agree the reasons seem wrong is there much of a difference between doing this and breeding your own feeders? Basically keeping/housing the fish to become food for other fish?

Thin line on this and I'm sure there will be posts supporting both sides.

Yeah i can give it to a pet store but i was kinda looking forward to the fresh meat. But i do agree it does feel kinda wrong. Any other opinions?

It is wrong. It is not a crime. But should be done only as a last resort, imho.
Not because it is easier and quicker...

If it is a fish you kept for a long time and think it is healthy, just throw it in the new setup...If it lives, it lives if it gets eaten, it gets eaten.

If you are looking for the fresh meat, then gut it and cook it; but aquarium fish isn't good for you to eat though.

spiney eels get their name for a reason.. even if the whole idea wasn't questionable... I wouldn't just kill it chop it up and feed it, i'de fillet it out. and if you're going to kill it for food.. I'de just behead it and clean at least the back spines out... I've fed to much live/frozen to be squimish.. but anything i've consided a "pet" is hard to just feed out imo.
