I was negligent and got distracted with a phone call while feeding my fish. I forgot to put the tank lids back in place. My Leonardo managed to slam into the side of a lid and slice off his lower lip. It was a gruesome injury with his lower lip attached by a small bit of tissue at one corner of his mouth. It was flapping around in front of him while he swam. He was removed from the tank the next day, and he donated his lower lip. He has a very toothy look now. He pouted and sulked for a few minutes until feeding time. He let Adonis get the first three pieces of food, and then he resumed his role of tank bully and food hog.

One of his incisors is dark and is probably dead...mostly likely caused by his slamming his face into the walls.

One month later, the red, raw, torn tissue is healing and turning dark. He will never have a lower lip, but at least he is healing.

He's got a mug that only his mom can love :) He needs a root canal and orthodontics.

What a handsome guy !! Im sure that being a dentist, you handled the situation easily :)

Nice save. I wouldn't discount his regrowing some tissue. I've seen some amazing regenerations in the last near 50 years in this hobby.

That would be great. Poor fellow. He damaged his upper lip years ago, slamming into walls. Now he doesn't have a lower lip.

I didn't do the surgery....my husband did. I don't work on family members :) They had to take time off from the fish room building project to deal with Leonardo. One person held Leonardo down while my husband finished detaching the lip. When I came home, the operation was over.

Leonardo is a knucklehead with lots of personality. We just need to keep in him alive until his new home is ready. It would be terrible if something happened to these two fish before we get their big tank set up. The tank set up has been on hold until we get a final inspection on the building project. We are very very close to getting that last inspection. Fish room still needs trim painting....

It would really be a disaster if after all the hard work that has been done, we lost our fish before they made it into their new tank. I was feeling really sick when I saw Leonardo's injury, but he seems to be OK, just more homely now.

That is by far the nicest fish room that I have ever seen !! Well done !! Never seen crown moulding, 16'' tile and recessed lighting in a fish room before.

My husband has done a fantastic job. When we were tiling, we wished it was 16" instead of 20" tile. Backbreaking, difficult work...had to buy a special tile saw to cut the big tile. No place around here or two hours away had big tile saws that we could rent or buy. Every edge piece had to be cut... lots and lots of cutting. This is in front the equipment room door.

+1
Hands down the best I've seen too. I wished I did such lighting in my fish room when I had the chance.

I'm glad the brut is pulling through. Waiting to see these two guys to get into their new home.

Cheers and good luck

He has more charecter to him now.
And the fish room looks fantastic! Slowly but surely the turtle is winning the race here.
Nice work Pacu mom. We look forward to seeing the 2 brutes in their new home.

I thought it was a thread about grilling your pacu! lol
