Whenever I try to feed my turtles their food gets sucked into the overflow. They don't eat fast enough. Should I cap and drill te overflow. I don't want to restrict flow that much though. Suggestions. It's a DIY PVC overflow.

they make food rings for floating foods that prevent such things. and im sure you could easily do a DIY one

Really you guys all turn off the filter. I have a finicky pump. It don't always turn back on lol. I think I'll screen it. That's a sound plan

I know you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet, but I heard that turning pumps off and on frequently shortens their life...it's just not good for them, so what I did is made a feeding ring...easy and cheap. Check mine out...you can see my overflow in the background...it keeps floating pellets from getting sucked into my sump.

My hang on canister filter shoots its return water straight across the tank on the waters surface and very few pellets get to the other side of the water stream before they are eaten.
