Hairless Chimps

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i know your trying to help, but please do not bring up evolution ( us being related to apes/chips/monkeys ) which we are not.. sorry to derail but had to bring this up..

Please don't talk about your belief in evolution as if it is fact, but let me bluntly tell you that you're wrong so we can move on. Provoking much? lol

Doug, we cannot go on with you getting upset that we come from monkeys or upset with evolution.

Give us a break, please.

Neanderthals are shorter and stockier than modern humans, but where comparable in height to the sympatric Homo sapiens of the time. One can only assume that if a modern Neanderthal was to be found and raised on a modern, Western diet, they would be significantly larger and healthier than their primitive cousins, similar to the way that new generations of H. sapiens ''natives" are larger and healthier when fed healthy, Western food than are native populations eating roots and bugs and whatnot.

It is entirely plausible to speculate that a modern Neanderthal, with all of the medical and nutritional benefits available today, would be a giant in comparison to modern humans. They would also likely be smarter; Homo neanderthalensis had the largest braincase of any hominid, to include modern man.

It is hypothesized that they went extinct due to the much higher metabolic needs of their large body and brain. Basically, Homo sapiens could do the same thing as the Neanderthals in a cheaper-to-operate body. Essentially, it was a prime example of competitive exclusion.

It certainly makes logic what you say, Ro.
I have read, however, that allthough larger brained, they had consideravly less intelligence ( and language skills ) and that this factor also contributed to the competitive exclusion.

Though they cohabitated for more than 10.000 years, and even interbred.

Agreed. Sorry Doug, but there has to be a reason why we share 95% of our Dna with Chimps.

I believe it is near 98%. more than 90% we share with rats, i think :)

um you cant tell me i am wrong when we have yet to prove how we are related...... end of rant.. and this not bringing up Religion either...

I believe they suffer from alopecia, which is caused by stress. Other zoo animals have this also.
