Tarantula beginner - what should I get?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine made a web a good while after I got it then it started abandoning it so I cleaned it one day and hasn't made another one since.

looks good, Tyler. I just cleaned and moved mines enclosure (and rearranged it a little).

Im hoping mine makes a web soon. She's doing good. She's eating really well. Of course, I don't know the sex, I just call it a she.

Paul, I'd like to see some updated pictures of yours and it's home.

I'm getting kinda into T's. I kinda want to get another species.

I'll take some tomorrow night after I get my snake. I moved the enclosures side-by-side. I have a pic in my snake thread, but it sucks.

I told you it wouldn't take long before you wanted another. If you want a more aggressive species, you might want to start handling yours some. I handled my a good bit tonight moving it temporarily while I cleaned its enclosure and then before I put it back.

You finally got a snake? Nice! Corn snake? I'll check your thread.

Looking good, OP. She's gonna be all over that hide ;)

Story of my life, haha.

I move many of my more aggressive species with a cup and a chopstick (rarely, if ever, freehandle), so I don't thinking "handling" is really a necessary skill for tarantula keeping per se. It's always good to be familiar, of course, but t's are so hands-off, anyway, I don't think it matters much (I'm aware that's just my personal opinion, though).

I didn't like the way her 28 gallon looked because there were calcium deposits or some type of spots all over the glass. It was also a pain to take the crappy top off for feeding and misting. I went and got her a 12x12x18 zoo med terrarium. I'm pretty happy with the way it looks, and I don't have all that waisted space anymore. .lol. I'll post up a new thread a little later. I had a low wattage heat lamp on the old one, but I've read that they are fine at room temp, so im not using the lamp.
