I bought him like 3-4 years ago at about 9 inches. And yes when they get bigger they really slow down in growth! It is hard to estimate how old my BDR is.
So as for different types of Rhoms, black rhom, jet black, gold purple blue diamond. What ever what's your opinion on that, I think a rhom is a rhom and depending on there environment is where they get there colour.

Yeah all Rhoms are considered Black Rhoms. But hobbyist seperate the different types by Diamond scales and general rhom color. If you look at photos of lots of different rhoms you can see some are dull, some have bright specs of scales they call diamonds. So there is Black Rhom, Black Diamond Rhom, Gold Diamond Rhom, and my Blue Diamond Rhom which i have seen. Most will say they are the in the same Rhom family which is true, but the prices on each variants are different. Blue Diamond Rhoms usually are more expensive because some people say they are prettiest.
For sure a gorgeous fish for sure, ill take some more pictures of mine, in the right light mine looks like a "black dimond"

Yeah definitely if you seen some other large black rhoms some will not possess the diamond scales.
The diamond scales looks like as if you threw glitter randomly at your rhoms body!
If you have a Diamond rhom it will be obvious, if you have to look at it hard, most likely it a standard rhom. Which is still and awesome fish no doubt!
Yeah I know what you mean, the picture I took was from a video on my iPhone and snapped a screen shot, in person my rhom glitters, bright silvers and golds n purples it's really a beautiful fish. When I get out of camp ill find my old lady's camera and take some nice pictures and you can decide
