Just wondering if people rely care if the ray you are purchasing is F1 or F2 and so on.. Does it make a difference when you are buying?

It make a small difference to me. Mainly in terms of if it is a hybrid or not or if there is a chance at a hybrid being in there. The farther you get from wild unless it is from the same breeders groups, the higher the chance of a hybrid. I am not against hybrids but you can't get pure bloods money for one like a lot of people try to around here. Here someone has reg. Leos that they don't know the background on and they want $1400 for a 6" female.

Are you willing to pay more for F2 then F1 if the pattern was about the same?

A few years ago no i was not now that i know better Absolutly Trev!!!!That and let's start considering the amount of wild rays taken from the wild that end up dead for one reason or another ....And to be responsible as Hobbiest this is something to consider A breeder takes alot of time and $$$$ to do this the end result is most times better and healthier product and should not question a few dollers more JMO...

It would depend on the fish for me. I think that wild fish should cost more and then go down from there. Not only would that help wild stocks, but the whole reason behind most home breeding is to get experiences not to make profits. Also captive fish being cheaper and hardier will make more hobbiests be able to afford them and know that it is not going to die from some random thing that it caught from were ever. The new people that get into it will buy more after they see how cool they are and not get discouraged from the death of a nice expensive fish. So I would be willing to pay more for a wild or f1 then a f2 or f3 due to the genes and it cost more to get. It should IMO drop in price with each level away from wild. The people that want to breed will pay more to get "pure genes" to start with. Even if the pattern was identical I would expect to pay less for a f2 or f3 then a wild or f1. Most f1 and all wilds have import fees and shipping fees before you even get them. When you get to nonimported f2 or f3 the price should reflect the non import or shipping fees.

I don't even ask and I was up to 14 rays at one time and currently sitting at 12. If I like it then I buy it. All I know for sure is you never get back what you paid for them so in the end result does it really matter if they are WC or 3 generations away from WC. If the parents look good then the pups will probably look good. The only real guessing game is the WC but then that's all the fun. Waiting to see how they will turn out.

It all comes down to looks for me.
