LOL calm down....they were definitely not tats. The angle of the photo couldn't help with ID much, those fish swam at a 40 degree down angle, did not have wide tails and body shape much taller than tats at the same size. Believe me, I wish I had some of the yellow tats :)

They look like tats to me! For comparison, first is my tat and second is my scomb. In my mind, there is absolutely no doubt what the fish in your picture are.

It was actually the tat. When I bought it I didn't care what it was, the price you were offering them for was too good to pass up for any payara!

Edit- to be fair, when I first brought it home I couldn't tell for sure what it was. It took a couple of months of filling out and growth to become obvious. I remember you told me that you were leery about selling the last one because it was looking rough and upon receiving it I understood completely why you felt that way. But as you can see, he shaped up very nicely!

Ive been doing the vampire thing for a long time now. Your pic is yellow tail tats. Ive owned several of all types of payara over the years (except wallacei) and know what they all look like

Well isn't that interesting...some lucky people out there got a great deal on rare tats. I guess I'll order more from the same supplier lol

Man I would LOVE to get my hands on some wallacei. They're supposedly a golden scomb-like fish that gets a bit bigger and has a black base color. I wonder why this one species is unique in being completely absent from the hobby?
