The deep south
Yes i saw them on t.v. but im simply amazed this fish has never been brought up before on our forum. Im also amazed ive never heard of them in the states. Anyone keeping them and is it legal anywhere? Fresh or marine? Seems like a perfect species for us lol...not too big...not too small.....nice colors :) unbeliveable resemblance to a snakehead for us since we cant own them in the u.s.....

Find some more info...i sure hope someone has one lol...

Chiller may be needed for the Burbot a.k.a. eelpout, and they are full fresh. Can be found living up to 300meters deep in lakes and spawn under the ice.

Wes' are from europe.

First in the hobby I think.

I've collected juveniles in the past. Adults like cold, dark, deep waters.

I love them. They are found in deep northern lakes and are often considered "trash fish." They are mostly targeted during the ice-fishing season when it is easier to fish deep, also fished for with traps.

This is one species that certainly needs a chiller to thrive. A cold basement may be "good enough" but a chiller is the safest, healthiest option. Further than that, care is pretty straight forward

I have the eelpout being kept at my workplace, apparently you don't need a chiller to keep the eelpout, as long as its in low 70's. Bad thing about these eelpout is that they just hide or just laying around like walleyes till feeding time or dark time. But make sure the tankmates are bigger than the eelpout!

I figured ud have one mnrebel as the show on tv was in mn lol...apparently they can be found in lale erie aswell up my way so ill have to give it a long shot and try to catch one.

They are not the first in the hobby, maybe the first in the US though. You can get them for 10$ here but as has been said, they need cool, extremely well oxygenated water. Probably good candidates for an outdoor sturgeon pond.
