i know right, anyways there is no doubt in my mind that a bigger dovii would smoke a midas, but if they're the same size there is a 50% chance the midas will win

some times there's that one individual that is the main alpha of the whole batch of a thousand grow outs.. Those are the ones that can prove wrong in any stereotypes over who is the baddest.

Doviis and Umbees are at the top of the list because they got aggression + size. That's why they are most talked about when it comes to biggest baddest..

But equally pound for pound Baddest I think the Beanis. Beanis are fast and vicious. Not sure about durability.

And I dont think an every day Beani can take on my Midas either. Not Because he's a Midas. Because he got Kung fu

IMO dovii are why I consider alpha fish to the point where no matter what size they start in a tank or whatever tank mates if they're allowed to grow normally ten they will rule the tank eventually eliminating fish as they grow.

Umbee are later bloomers and less territorial IMO and not so much alpha predators. As open water predators being territorial probably isn't there nature where dovii are lurk predators that claim territories and have to defend against lots of other species in natives waters like amphs, nics, and others competing for space for breeding. I don't think umbees natural need for aggression is as high as dovii due to them being more than likely top dog vs dovii living with others high on the aggression scale.

Dovii are power houses, there body and muscular skeletal are built that way hense they wide backs!! Both have very aggressive territorial tendancies regardless of of the way they hunt. When these two species have a brood to protect watch the **** out!!! I have seen personally a 20 inch Dovii pop lids off tanks when you get with in 6 ft and A 18 inch Umbee go even more nuts when protecting there fry. IMO this is where they get there aggressive nature from! Always rember evry single fish has its individual level of aggression and etc.

I think that dovii are more aggressive as a whole and are more likely to wipe out a tank. Umbees on the other hand may or may not tolerate timid submissive tank mates but will stop at nothing to be the ruler of the tank eventually. If it is a threat they will kill it or at least try.

For me it's been Hemichromis Fasciatus. My 3" Fasciatus kill 4 dovii the same size and whooped a Devil probably twice it's size. I do aggree that all fish are different. IME H. Fasciatus has been the craziest fish I've ever owned.
Here is a quick vid I took over a year ago. His right gill was showing at the time of this vid and I had to pull out the 4 other fasciatus due to this guy jacking them up. Left corner are 3 dovii's same size pinned in.

Like I said, this is just my experience.

My male is about 10-11" now if you were wondering

First off your referring to an African cichlid so doesn't belong in this section. Second how does this relate to differences in dovii and Umbee? You have to also realize the age and maturity differences of hemichromis and dovii at smaller sizes. The hemichromis are closer to adult whereas dovii at that size are still technically babies in their development. So not comparable IMO

Fishman, someone mentioned a Midas in here as well. Mentioned mine as they are the same water parameters. What's the age and maturity difference between a Hemichroms and a dovii that is 10-11" in a year? I've seen dovii's bread at a pretty small size... maybe 5-6".... Female was probably around 4"....
