Umbee is messed up need help please!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry to hear. Hope he pulls through quickly. Keep us posted.

I have always used kanamycin to treat it--our LFS seemed to be carrying columnaris for a while and I had it pop up a number of times with newly purchased fish--I have not used furan 2 in quite some time but sure sounds like it's a good combo.

Post water perameters. Ammonia, nirtite, nitrate and ph.
This is columnarus. Do a 50% water change, lower the water temp to 72-75 and add salt at 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water. Your water perameters will dictate the best med for this. Furan 2 is good at lower PH levels of ~7.2 and lower at Higher ph Triple Sulfa is a better choice. The combiation of Kanamycin & Furan 2 is great combination, Kanamycin can also be combined with 3X sulfa for use in high ph where Furan 2 is ineffective. If you lower the temp add the salt and change the water you sould be ok with either the Furan 2 or 3X sulfa depending on the Ph if you can not get Kanamycin.

If you can't get meds till morning it is imperative you lower the temp and add the salt to slow it down. It will kill quickly if you don't.

Thank you guys very much! Tom, I just did a water change and added kanamycin and sulfa. The peeling skin has subsided and he has a white film over his head but since I added the salt yesterday morning he was much better today. Thanks again for your all your help on treatment, I will keep you guys posted.

Keep us updated on its progress.

After dosing tank with recomended dose of Kanamycin combined with Sulfa with in a week and a half the illness was gone. Now it looks to be on a return. I just noticed his scales along the dorsol have a bit of a glaze like before, his face and upper back scales get a frosted looking glaze. Is this indeed Collumnaris??? He is the only one to be affected and has no stress as he has been in the tank for a number of months and is definitly the larger fish. So is this fungus going to be an on going battle?

+1 also drop the temp and add salt to the tank, that will slow the progression assuming its columnaris.
