We have had Earthlink web mail for about ten years now and it works fine. It was free with our internet service. However, about a year ago we switched internet providers, and now I am paying $5/month for email. It seems like a waste, so I am looking at switching. Who has the best free webmail? I hate the idea of having to change my email address again, so I am hoping to find a provider that will be around for a long time.

Thoughts?

I've had yahoo forever and also have a gmail account. My cable subscription gave me one too.

Gmail looks like it has some nice features - the only problem is all the good addresses are taken. My current email is just my first and last name @blahblahblah, so I would like to keep it as much the same as possible...

Gmail is by far the best. There's really no competition from anyone else. As a IT provider, I can tell you that. They simply offer more functionality and in a more robust fashion, and they're not going anywhere.

IMO just add some numbers to your name and go with gmail. Yahoo et. al. are dinosaurs.

I agree with gmail though yahoo has started updating their features. Both will be around forever. Yahoo has the longer track record

I agree with Gmail being the best as well. The hotmail/msn/live system gets broken into on their end way too much.

Yahoo and gmail are both free. Had Yahoo for years and then last year had some kind of an issue with it and was locked out for a few days, so was forced to use my gmail account for purchases during that time. I notice that I don't get spam in my gmail account. Both my husband and I had our Yahoo accounts broken into. I guess that's why it is recommended that passwords get changed periodically.

Had yahoo for over 10 years. Works great for me(good luck find an easy user name for it. They always want numbers or _ in it). Wife has gmail and hates it. it's a pain at times. They have a bad habit of combining multiple emails from the same sender, that makes it hard to find a certain one.

Gmail is kinda like a mac, very streamlined interface, with lots of customization options for those who want to use it...

Plus their unlimited storage is hard to beat...

I find the exact opposite to be true about Gmail while it does combine emails from one sender (in the same set of exchanges) it catalogs well and is easy to go through. It is by far the best email service in my opinion.
