shovelnose catfish not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes i offered him shrimps and sometimes chicken he used to eat it like a pig but he got to big for my tank so i put em in the pond. when i throw the food in he starts to go around everywhere but shows no interest in the food even when i put them near his mouth. he just ignores them. he looks healthy and goes all over the place but does not eat.

Then just wait, granted that the pond water quality is good. When it will be a month, then I'd worry a bit. I'd cut out the chicken, but IIRC, we already discussed this somewhere, so I don't want to get this started again. Everyone is free to make their choices.

i put some fresh shrimp in there he moved his whisker over them but did not eat em

Fresh as in alive? I dont personally own a shovelnose but there's been a 12 incher at my work (LFS) for a really long time. He loves algae wafers and especially live crayfish. Not too sure what your problem could be. If he's noticing the food but not eating, he's probably sick. Look for signs of infection every day. If nothing, maybe he just wants you to change up his meal plan a little! Some fish do that, pout until you give them something they like better. Good luck!

Maybe something's wrong internally, how many years/month since when you've got the TSN and started feeding the chicken?
Or it's just fasting period for the TSN...
Or yeah, like what people said in the first page, it's acclimating due to it's transfer.

actually mainly i feed him shrimp i have owned him from 5 inches to 12 inches he is 4 months old. should i move him back to the tank or what

I'd say he's fine and just give him some time. Maybe throw some feeders in at night

A catfish never says no to feeders, believe me... It stimulates it's hunting instincts so eventually it might have a go.
