i have to move my rays too from a 180 to 300.. i hate to buy a net just for swapping from tank to tank... what i did was went to my LFS and asked them if i can have 4 largest shipping bag they have and if you know them well they will just give it to you.. then when i got home i just open a wire clothes hanger up and made it into a O and then i just push my male in first.. he went out and into the 300 without a fight.. then my female gave me a little fight with a small pin hole leak but the 2 tank was 10' away from one another.. last is they do have pumps that's submersible well over 3000gph.. the laguna 4280 pump @4' height pushes 3487gph..

So I had a day off work and...
All I have to do now is pick up 20 liters of media tomorrow and buy some pvc clamps to support the plumbing a little better

Do you have microbubbles from the air disc being do close to the intake? What brand are your filter sock holders?
Do you have the pump turned back at all or are you @ full blast? I'm considering an external of similar size for my 300. Is it loud? Your setup is gorgeous by the way. 
No microbubbles. Socks are purolator from lfs I'll look at the brand of holders when I get home.
Full blast its only loud because of water falling over into overflow, I'm going to tinker with it more when I vome home tonight. is your 250 really 60" long length?? my 300 isn't really 72" long.. techniquely it's only 71" but if you measure the plastic frame it's 72.25" long.. second i guess you have not spoken to marineland tech..my 300 deep dimension have a flow rate no more than 700gph rate each overflow box.. at time i was supprised myself.. and now here your using a 3000gph @ 4' height i feel i need to upgrade my pump now... do you have any problem with that flow rate?? i'm only pushing 1700gph @5'...
