To my knowledge, the northern pike are not often raised in the fish farms....there was some issues with keeping northern pikes at the hatcheries.Have you tried fish farms? Also if you do not have a large pond, pickerel would be the better option. Pike are hard to keep in glass tanks.
Other than cannibalism (in both adults and juveniles), the pike populations doesn't need any help with stocking, therefore not too many hatcheries have northern pike in stock. The only two reasons why we have northern pike in the hatchery is because: they are using them for crossbreeding with muskellunges to produce tiger muskellunges and or stock northern pikes in the lakes that have winterkills & summerkills (but that is usually done with adult northern pikes most of times). Very few hatcheries rearing northern pike fingerlings but only for short time (we usually stock northern pike fingerlings in late spring/early summer where the rest of fish species were stocked in fall). That's how fast the northern pike fingerlings grow up, they will be 4-6 inches long already by June after the adult pikes spawned in mid April.Yes, baby northern pike are prone to cannibalism. Some farms raise them nonetheless.
No it's not but I do not live by a lake stocked with them the closest body of water is the Rancocas creek and catching one from there would be a challengeis it illegal to just go out and catch one?
