Tile Floor in THE TANK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My tank is a standard 180.6x2x2 home depot is where I got the tile, had to cut the back 6 pieces of it about a inch an a half just to fit the inside( my glass is really thick) it was all real easy an cheap under 25 $in tile an I returned the tile cutter after I used it like a ******* lol I might silicone the it to the bottom eventually if I start finding waste under it a regular basis. Good luck man hope this helped

Well thanks man and I spoke to a guy who has done this before and he said that tile will no harm my fish nor will much waste get under the tile due to nice tight fits. If you silicone you would have to drain your tank and set your fish up somewhere else for a day or two until the silicone is fully dried. I think as you have done laying them in is a much better idea :)

Yeah I've had the tile in one if my tanks and I didn't like the idea of all of the broken down waste that found its way under the tiles....

why not cut out a small section of tile and point an output at the hole? should keep it pretty clean, especially if you did a filtered powerhead with tubing.

this isn't really a DIY is it? we had conversation about it as it seemed like a general topic. Oh well either way I bought tile today :)

I have tile in my tank. Stay away from slate; it could have a lot of iron in it. I just placed mine on the bottom, some crap does get under but I remove it by agitating the water right by the tile bottom with my glass cleaning pad. My tile rests on the silicone of the tank a bit too; which elevates it. I was thinking to lay a bead of silicone all the way around the tile on the bottom as close to the edge as possible. You could even it out with a razor if must be. This would prevent crap from getting under once the tile is on the glass bottom. think about it, and yes tile is safe for fish

Thanks man the silicone around the bottom of the tile sounds like a good idea maybe. Ill fit everything and than maybe try a trial and error i you will lol.

So today I went a head and removed 98% of my sand :) Than put everything in the tank and left it barre bottom till im ready to add time here some pics of the progress :)
