How young can you identify a sex of a festae?

plus males retain the blue spangle...while sometimes females can have some that doesn't mean they should be confused with a male ... Males retain their blue spangle on the dorsal and speckles on the tail while females usually have black on the dorsal although may have SOME blue spangle on the dorsal and/or tail, the main thing is males eventually often lose their stripes while females always retain them.

Lol there are a couple of guys giving good info here but sounds to me like everyone else is just repeating what they've read or been told:) I've had Festae go from 1" to 8" in 8 months and others go from 3"-7" in almost a year. With that bring said, there isn't any exact growth rate on them. Their diet and water changes will help a lot but only play into their genetics, which determines everything. As far as sexing them.. I've seen people say they can sex them at 2-3" lol well that may be true in some cases but not all and definitely not a sure thing with Festae. Both males and females will bar up and can also lose their bars pending mood. The dark dorsal thing only plays true for a female when there's a permanent spot in or right below the their dorsal. And when the mood is right females will darken the first 2/3rds of their dorsal along with anal fin. Males dorsals can darken too but they won't have the spot below the dorsal, only stripes that will fade into dorsal giving them the look of a young female. Best advice is to observe behaviors which can help immensely determine dom males, sub dom males and females. If you have a magnifying glass then perhaps you can vent at 3-4" otherwise it's a waiting game till they decide to color up.

Yes feed alot and maintain the water accordingly to how much you feed and waste they produce, remember some of the basics though, too many water changes can actually be harmful for your fish in terms of the beneficial "start up" bacteria required in order to have a cycled tank. I bought a 3" male over a year ago, kept him in a 55 with a managuense, venezuelan pike, tiger oscar, and a green terror and now he's about 8" long I have him alone now in a separate 55g, you can view him on my profile I just uploaded two pics

I would not feed a lot actually. Often, yes, but not a lot at each feeding. I do feed fry and juvies about 4 times a day though ....

Lots of clean water. As much as you can throw at them actually, and they will grow.
