The New Stingray Room

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good move there - was the fridge for fish food i presume? Will your fridge not be in the fishroom now?

Just thinking of practicality...

The fridge is dual purpose - mostly for fish food but it gets used as a second fridge and refreshments. It will be moved out to the open area in the family room making refreshments more assessable - at least that's the reasoning I'm giving my wife. A little inconvenience is a small price to pay for another tank LOL! My wife has already warned me I can't take the basement bedrooms once our sons moves out. How did she know??

Love the room. Just did the same myself! You always need more space for ray food and an adult beverage or 6 lol

Thought I'd give an update. Got the last tank in 8' x 30" and moved the fridge out. Set up a battery backup system that will run all my filters for 4 hours in case of a power outage. Fish room has 2-400 gallon, 1-300 gallon, 1-240 gallon, 1-180 gallon and a 90. 3 of the tanks are set up on drip system. Couldn't find the SLR so I took a quick video with the iPhone - sorry not the best quality.

Here's a short video

My plan is quit simple. I'll drip into the tanks at the outflow of of FX5's so the new water is circulated throughout the tank. I had the tanks drilled at the bottom in case I wanted to go with a sump. I'll use a stand pipe cut to the height I want the water level to be at and drain it to the floor drain. This will not only maintain my water level for the drip, but will surface skim as well. To prevent the rays from breaking the pipe off, it will be boxed around with glass with a screen at the top. If I wanted to go to a sump system I could shorten the pipe and have an overflow box.
how did you have the tank drilled for incase you wanted a sump, and not get a sump? did you like silicone a piece of glass to bottom of tank or something? BTW awesome room...
