What Camera Do You Use For Aquarium Pics?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a little Sony point/shoot that isn't too bad. I also carry the Nikon D3100 for a little bit better quality shot.

For flash, I try not to use it on a tank. If I do, it's always a game getting the right angle to avoid catching the reflection, but still lighting up the inside of the tank. Overhead/over tank lighting usually works the best.

I usually shoot at a slight angle, pointing down, this seems to eliminate most of the flash reflections. Sometimes the reflection appears at the top, and can be cropped out. Scratches are another story, and sometimes ruin what could have been a decent shot. If I take 100 shots, and keep 5, I feel lucky.

lol 100takes and u just took 5? i wouldnt risk it. tht is just increases the shutter counts. i did like only 10shots for a few pics using another flash. haha
look at this guy for instant, http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?566426-Trimac-Pair&highlight=trimac

I use a 5D mkII with either the kit lens or my macro with no flash...

i also now randomly use my GoPro as well for pics, but more normally video more so than pics with this one for obvious reasons

Some pretty awesome information here. Decided to go SLR and just ordered a Canon Rebel T3i, I will post some pics when I get it!

So on my t3i i just go to portrait mode and shoot the fish? Do i shoot with lights out?

iPhone, they take pretty good pictures for a phone.
I'll also use an old model fujifilm finepix occasionally.

Nikon D7000

A five year old Canon Power Shot SD900 point-and-shoot. Can't do extreme closeups as with a macro, extension tubes or close up lenses but it still does a pretty good job. I never use my flash ..just aquarium lighting. I got rid of my Nikon SLR system a few years back ... wish I had kept it now. Oh well.
