Whether JH or not, its a really pretty fish. The first photo is just a regular camera phone shot. The other 2 were taken with a real camera, they were just darkened slightly because the flash washed them out a bit, no other color enhancement. When he is happy, he really looks like this when the lights hit him right.

Andicca...That is a beautiful f***in fish right there...Very nice work.

You said it! Imagine wanting metae and getting something else, only to find they're JH. I thought I missed the boat on those.

Either way Ryan, JH or diadema. They are gonna be nice aequidens! Please post pics as soon as you can, I would really like to have more incentive to make a 3 hour drive down to Portland...not that I need more, but ya know :cool-1:

Darn, missing the GSAS auction due to work, and not can't bum a ride to wonderland with you since I'm working sunday too. Boo work!

I hear ya bud, I gotta WFH tomorrow and so wanted to bring some metynnis lippincottianus to the auction. Gotta thin things out so my new geophagus Tapajos red heads, green phantom plecos and A. JH can actually swim around without running into a mob of silver dollars!

Definitely going to Wetspot on Sunday though

Chris, thanks!! Dont worry, yours will turn out nice. I got 1 "JH" female from Rapps when he got them in, I think it was the last one. Shes looking real similar to those guys as far as color, you got Metae from him as well right? Lovin those (even though the male killed the female right after their second spawn attempt). Have to call Jeff this week to get a replacement.

Yeah I got 4 "JH" from Rapps, and 2 metae. Unfortunately the ich took out the two metae, even after salt, heat, and medication...The 4th "JH" some how got bloated and was dead the next day, couldn't even save him with a Epsom salt bath or anything.

I would really like to get another "JH", just to make sure I get a pair out of the remaining acara I have.

Ryan, Wetspot changed the name for the aequidens. They are calling them diadema now, and hopefully they've offered to make it up to you for the mistake.

Sorry that I haven't had the chance to get pictures, I've been working all weekend.

I do believe the fish to be Aequidens sp. 'JH'. They slightly extend their dorsals when eating and the saddle does go into the dorsal to some extent. On most it's barely noticeable, just reaching into the base of the dorsal, but on a few it actually appears to extend at least halfway into the fin. If that, and the location, are the main identifiers, I'd say they're a match.

The pics aren't very clear but is it possibile these are A. tetramerus "Peru"

A. tetramerus have a red throat/chest, right? These don't look anything like that. Now that they've settled in a bit, they have a nice golden color with orange pectoral fins. They have whitish-blue iridescent markings on their faces. They're cute little fish but I guess it's going to be a little while before their true colors show. It usually takes wild cichlids a month or so to really settle in and color up for me.

When they are older the Peruvians do have a red throat but not at that age. But yes, I agree they do take a while to settle in and color up. A. tetramerus peru has been showing up so, even though they may not be I can't discout the posibilty at this point.

Those aredefinately diadema. I also have Peru tetramerus from tuic, they don't look anything like that. They are a kinda green iridescense, not much color yet, a the red throat hasn't emerged yet. I will snap some shots later this evening after work and post.
