I am making it the two sides as separate things that way can be viewed on a wall, thought about a full one piece torso but I have no where to display that will allow 360 degree viewing..
Mannequin is used for basic shaping but all detailing and breasts and curves are free hand , I don't like the tiny waist lines that mannequins have and breasts are too small IMO.I have about 6.5 hours if work into her.
Even just using it for basic shaping required a high dollar mannequin, the heat/fire will deform a cheap one..I picked up a good one off of Craigslist last winter for pretty cheap. The amount of tacking and grinding is insane. I went thru 3 4 1/2"grinding rocks. My mig welder was being a PITA with the coating on the washers so I had to stick weld it.

So I am looking at all of the pics in this thread and I am very impressed, I am not a person that can draw. I am just above stick figures in that department. I can make anything in real life, a union boilermaker by trade ( build and maintain nuclear and fossil fuel power plants and refineries a pipefitters and iron workers super hero) but "art" has never been my strong suite. Y'all have enormous talent with pencil and pad, I am envious. But I have come to use metal art as a bit if a stress relief. I do X-ray quality welds at work so you would think it would be just like work but it is different . It is relaxing, allows me to remove myself from everything and focus on something that I have total control over, no quality control, no time constraints or engineers that have no common sense. I guess that is part of why I love fish keeping, it is living art that we put together in our tanks. A small little world we can escape to every now and then. I have a great desire to share what I make but zero desire to sell or give away. Anyone else like this? my creations are worth more to me than they could ever be to anyone else. It is hard for the wife to understand this for some reason.
Rant over ... Thanks for the positive feed back, I know I like some weird stuff lol.

we know exactly what you mean about the stress relief, relaxation and escape

art isn't just restricted to drawing talent though. of course what you can do with objects is also art.

I wish I had the same passion and patience for drawing like I used to. I don't enjoy working on a quality piece for hours at a time anymore

Here is the latest ... Hard to see the 3d aspect in the picsView attachment 1033056View attachment 1033057View attachment 1033058

looks great man I bet its a lot harder than if looks shaping those washers , love the concept I've seen pieces like this go for decent money in designer furniture shops :)
I'm with sumo and yourself on the relaxation drawing has always given me a happy place to retreat to likewise with the fish
I'm also a great believer in art of any form not just drawing/painting , sculpture is a very hard skill to learn you've got a great tallent there stick with it , look forward to seeing more of your work its quality :)
