It sounds like the only difference between the OP and myself, is when I get FORCED into this situation, I cull the fish usually as feed, and blacklist the vendor for future business.

Uh...Its not the OP's fish........and from his posts, the OP doesn't support the living condition of pictured fish

I can appreciate both sides to this. Just because the home isn't as big as nature's doesn't mean you can't provide a comfortable life for your creature of choice. My fish eat better than me some days, and don't have any predators to watch for.

On the other hand, it's not the same as locking a human in a closet it's entire life, as much as the hippies may hate me for saying it a human life is in fact worth more by virtue of our intelligence (given the choice between keeping a fish in a small tank or your daughter or son in a closet you know very well what choice you'd make). Point being it is just a fish, animals have been suffering terrible fates at the hands of humans for a long time, fish like this one have been killed just for sport fishing, or for food, or due to garbage in their habitat, is that any better or worse than keeping it in a small tank? Fish may have lived longer in this small tank then it would have in the wild or at the hands of someone with a 450 gal that doesn't know how to cycle a tank. Don't get me wrong, pains me to see this because I love animals and could have given this fish a better life, but in the end it is just a fish, it's going to die at some point, there are 1000's identical to it, 1000 more will die for various reasons, so unless you're hard core vegan you shouldn't sit too high on the horse because if it was life or death you would eat that fish. I think this is a perfect example of nature, cruel, but neutral at the same time. Just be happy a full grown paroon shark didn't nab your child swimming in the water lol. And if one does, it's simply nature, it is what it is, just like this single example of a bad fish keeper and an unfortunate fish.

I'm not a hippie. I am a fisherman. I also try to give good life's for my pets. I find an awful lot of things wrong with the post before mine. Just because their are thousands of the same fish.......really........so screw it its just a fish..........damn dude.

If I had the choice, I'd put your son or daughter in the closet so they couldn't breed and continue the bloodline of stupidity. Joking that was harsh. Not joking.

Why is it that fish breed by the thousands everytime? Go ahead and try to feed me the "because most die" line because you're just proving my point. Fish to an extent are meant to be expendable. Your pet - absolutely not, I'd be devastated if anything happened to my fish, I'm attached to them. I'm not attached to every single species of the fish i had, I won't shed a tear over one fish not having a life of luxury. Some make it some don't, it's nature's way. P.s. This is coming from the guy that catches bugs inside his house and let's them go and gets pissed when someone tries to kill them. If there was tons over running my house, best believe I'd kill em. If I could take that fish i would because it almost seems like it would have been better off being eaten by another predator that needs to eat than survive in that tank, i just am a bit tired of people putting fish on a pedestal like they're one notch under your wife, while half of you treat other people like crap anyway.

By the way, what do you guys do to help all these fish being kept in poor conditions, do you home each and every one of them? If not you're going to have to learn to accept it because you don't get to preach and not do anything about it, mainly because you can't help every fish. It's clearly not the same example, but what if someone else says your filtration is not enough, you are being cruel keeping a 14" pbass in a 180, you want a forum full of people blasting you for it?

Im not married.

Anyways, I feel that if an animal has the sense or instinct to move around the waters as weather changes, water chemistry changes, noises scare them, predators are detected, fight over territories, recognize you as feeding time and on and on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,then a 12 inch fish in a shoe box tank, once in a while ,,,,,,,,,thinks to itself however a fish thinks,,,,"THIS SUCKS ASS"

We all know its not a person. People are just being a bit emotional.

I think we all agree this fish has a crap life.

Yes some people like animals more than people.

Yes some people think they are equal to people.

Yes some thank they are ehhhhh whatever.

Yes some people think they are nothing but thoughtless food for us.

This argument can go on forever, I think certain animals can adapt somehow and some cant, some shouldn't have to unless we are idiots and lazy!!!!

In this case, we have an idiot fish owner abroad and this fish can easily have a better life.

Pets are wild animals kept for their owners amusement. I have pets and like my pets.

My dog would probably be happy running free in fields of daisys, but instead he lays on the couch in my house. he lives a healthy safe life as a domesticated animal. No predators, 3 meals a day, and a warm bed to sleep on. I take good care of him. I don't just have him chained in the backyard to a tree with no access to water. That's the difference between simply keeping a pet and taking care of a pet.

I live in a frigid climate. (Close to Canada) The suffering that native fish go through each year is unreal Some Bodies of water freeze solid anually and the fish die out. Theres the problem of Rampant over fishing / poaching Plus all the Farm runoff and pollution. To top it all off they are surrounded by Natural predators.... its not all rainbows and butterflies for wild fish.

I dont think fish can see rainbows, and fish eat butterflies, not dance through daisy fields with them.

Still keeping fish in tanks such as 300g , 600g or even 1000g does not provide them with ample space. I have never seen fish grow so big and thrive until I started with really huge tanks.
