I've bred both American bullies and old English bulldogges .....the American bully is not a pure bred dog they r pits mixed w bulldogges to get that short thick stance ....I now own nothin but old English bulldogges and its just because all the hype and bull**** that comes w the breed ...there is nothin wrong w it but when uve got to hang papers to get a color or a certain look it takes everything out of what takes so long for the ppl that do it rite to achieve!

I've never bread them but I know the American Bully is a mix of different dogs. One can easily tell by their freakish appearance.Thankfully, they don't seem to be popular around these parts as I don't recall ever seeing a real live one. When I spotted the woman walking her dog I immediately thought it was a bully of some kind as although it didn't have the freakishly short limbs and bloated body,it did not look like a bulldog....American or English.

I should have been more clear in that post since American bulldogs are somewhat long legged and bigger than their English counterparts. The woman did not specify which type the dog was supposed to be but it just looked like a big pit bull to me...not that it wasn't impressive.

even more confusing is that there are two types of a.b. Johnson and Scott.they have put pit, english, and many more breed into the lines for sure.Hanging papers and judges that cheat are the norm for this breed. It's one dog if you get make sure it is a reputable breeder. This my purebred a.b.003.jpg012.jpg013.jpg

Nice.I don't recall but are the tails on American bulldogs usually docked?

no.not usually.mostly people who are into pits do that.a lot of people who can't keep pits for whatever reason get into a.b.s instead, and want their dog to resemble a pit or just to look tougher.imo people who really want quality are more concerned with improving the breed.there a lot to breeding dogs, and with these dogs there is a lot to consider, from structure to skin issues.there is a lot of line breeding which is a form of inbreeding.for example, people take it too far wanting a shorter snout for looks but end up with a dog that doesn't breath right .1016374_389482211151287_798183851_n.jpg00Z0Z_8yNV5DWq78D_600x450.jpg047.jpg

Very similar problems go on in share pei breeding , the worst problem is something called shar pei fever due to bad breeding this can cause a whole series of problems adding to the list of more common shar pei problems such as ears , eyes , skin . fever can cause swelling of the hock joints there legs blow up like balloons and weep its not nice , the fever can also cause kidney and organ failure so the dog ends up poisoning its own body they can't keep fluid inside them and there body slowly shuts down , this is what happened to my first pei mampi who we lost at the age of two it was a very traumatic time for me and my family as we couldn't do anything to save him:(
This is all due to bad breeding , dodgy papers and money , and like you say takes away everything good breeders are trying to achieve with a lot of time and effort
