it happens but its a very rare situation. Usually in a specific lake where the lake conditions do not met the species' requirements. But in most situations, they eventually spawns at much late time of the year. If we are talking about sturgeons and paddlefish, these species won't reproduce in the pond anyways.....they needs swift waters and gravel bed to reproduce.Didn't you say

and I worked with native fishes and in the hatchery. They will still spawning no matter how ancient they are as long as they are still healthy. Dying fish won't spawning anyways.

what species are we talking about? The common stocked gamefish species in United States or just sturgeons?Not uncommon for all species of fish to have a small population of healthy/mature that will not spawn due to a number of factors(disrupted spawning,etc).
