New Addition: Pangasius larnaudii

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That sucks wind. Is it getting any better? Make sure it doesn't get out of control. Dumb statement, I know you won't let it get worse if you can help it. Good luck, I love it. Especially the whiskers. Looks like one of those Chinese dragons with the wispy thin mustache. Very cool Dive!!!

At this point he's just swimming against the glass every single time I look at him and has mild infections on his snout and the bases of his maxillery barbels :(. Don't know when my next trip to the fish store will be to grab a powerhead as it's a 40 minute drive so is there anything I can do to stop this behavior until I can get powerhead? He is still eating though, he'll take a few seconds during feeding time between swimming against the glass to go grab a few mouthfuls of flake.

Just a shot in the dark but the swimming against the glass could be due to the young fish being alone. My fish are in a small group and they still do the glass rubbing but only occasionally...Get some cheap young iridescent sharks and see how he interacts with them and if his behavior changes.

Do you have unused Filter sponges? Might be worth putting them against the side walls.

No, I don't. I tried the cardboard trick again but it didn't work this time, he just started swimming against the front pane at that point.

I'm already overstocked in this tank so adding more fish isn't really an option, it's hard enough keeping the water clean now with 6 giant danios (2.75-3.25"), 1 yellow bullhead (8.5-8-75"), 1 striped raph (5.25"), and the larnaudii (4.75").

Going to go through my spare tank parts bin and see if I can DIY something to create flow for him. Hopefully I find something useful.

One can buy a powerhead on line say from PetMountain. Marineland Maxi jet are quite economical $10-$15 and free shipping.

The sides (and even the front) can be protected from the inside of the tank by a light diffuser grate (sold in Lowes, Home depot in large sheets). It is often used as a divider.

It sounds like a skin abrasion, not an infection (I'd be careful with words but may be you do mean an infection, or rather one of its external symptoms - an inflammation? But inflammation can be caused by other things, such as a physical damage to the skin). The infection would spread and the fish will stop eating. Say I'd think a blister is an inflammation but not an infection. It can get infected though.

Like I said, just a shot in the dark as I can't think of anything else. The powerhead might make a difference so I'll be keeping an eye out for updates.
