Happen to drop in on my local Big Als for food today and feel like I won a lottery. Came home with a 7" L027c (?) for the incredible price of $190 Canadian. I was told he was a trade in, his stomach is a little sunken but the eyes are full and bright, a little minor fin damage too but looks promising. Left a load of wood chips in the bag and pail, lol.

He's now in a 175g bowfront with a 18" BBXB arowana, 8" L190, and a 9" L027 (sold as a Platinum, pics to come). Lots of wood and hiding spots, but it's going to be a high alter next 48hrs watching the interaction between the bigger royals and the Aro who like to hit the Royals every now and then. The Platinum occasionally head buts him back, or gives chase, never any damage.

Usually a sunken belly on a pleco is a red flag not to buy. Hopefully yours is just undernourished and will fatten up. Good luck with your purchase.

Two more quick and dirty shots. I agree about the "red flag" but these guys are pretty rare especially in Canada, just had to roll the dice.

Thanks for the kind words Joe and lmt6600.

Cool, nice find. Your guy looks to be a Panaque armbrusteri from the Tapajos basin, probably rio Jamanxim. The common name 'goldline' is used for the Araguaia's, your guy is a 'thunder'.

+1
you can tell its an armbrusteri by the mouth. My favorite species of fish. Definitely worth whatever you paid. I've order these several times in the past only to receive L027 P. nigrolineatus. I currently have a "xingu" that I got this way.

Thanks for the positive ID guys. Turned the lights on briefly to feed the arrow and he seems to be happily rasping away ignoring all the hiding spots. I'll breathe a sigh of relief when he starts eating !
