  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that's a good idea. thanks for the input. and yes you are right anyone would notice their fishes behavior acting abnormal. I just wouldn't really have a clue as to why. or maybe I just am not giving myself enough credit. idk. all my fish seem really happy

no problem glad i was able to help. your new the hobby but as you read more and deal with more and experience things
first hand you will learn to see the signs and behavior & etc. or maybe ur right and ur just not giving yourself the credit u
deserve.

From my experience young ebjd are very easily stressed, what I always refer to as black fish syndrome (just my own personal name for it). These guys, if stressed will seem to die for no reason. Stress will compromise an already underdeveloped immune system which doesn't seem to really kick in until they reach ~3" after that they are pretty hardy. They must not get bullied they don't handle that well at all. One of the best foods I've found is NLS thera A+ the higher inclusion rate of garlic helps to acidify the gut preventing bacterial infections that manifest themselves as the white stringy poop that is often confused with and incorrectly treated as internal parasites. So to sum up the most important thing you can do for a young ebjd other than a clean environment is eliminate stress.

So I have another question. So I had to put in a divider in my tank since my other fish were picking on the ebjd and ever since then he's been like a depressed lost puppy. He stays mostly in one spot by the divider stairing at all the other fish he's just laying at the bottom or staying in the same damn spot he isn't going to doe is he

I added a really.small red finned shark to the side of the tank my ebjd is on and he seems happier he's rubbing himself on rocks and flipping off them so I think he's happier

That may not be good. I always watch fish that do that because they may be scratching themselves because of irritation.

Not saying it's bad, fish have to scratch some times just like we do. However the illness known as ick causes fish to itch a lot. If he continues to do it a lot over the next few days id consider treatment. If you start to see small white spots on your fish you definitely need to treat.

it's called "flashing" and it sometimes does indicate a skin irritation. Sometimes my fish will do it when I change their water. Most times it's not a big deal unless they're doing it a lot. Did you quarantine the shark before adding him?

Yes I did. And if I keep my tank warm at around 80 wouldn't it be hard for them to get ich? I had a fish that would do it before and he never had it. At least I don't think he did

Ick can be killed by keeping the tank at 87F for at least three days, and better yet at 88 F just in case your thermometer is reading a bit high. The problem is most plants cannot handle rapid rise in temp, and so too many species of fish cannot be kept at those temps for long.
Also, water has less and less ability to hold disolved oxygen at higher temperature. A substantial increase in temp can be dangerous for your fish if the tank is near max capacity.
