How much on average do you spend feeding your fish every month ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for in quality of food.

Same here! Who says I don't buy high quality foods though? 90% of fish is all genetics trust me I been feeding my fish variety of foods from hikari, new spectrum, shrimp pellets to you name it and they all do the same damn thing. The fish food I buy is made for koi and has the best ingredients in it. Better than the brands listed. Whole fish meal with krill meal and many more including asathaxin for coloring.

A good protein content and a variety of diet is all you need. Been doing this for 15 years and never let me down. Always have a ton of growth and my fish breed frequently without me even trying.

This guy uses the same thing.

Genetics is a major player in fish development, but if you want the best out of those genetics a good diet is key. Also, and this is a personal thing, the fact that these fish are in your care, that there entire existence, health and general well being begins and ends with you, the keeper, I think paying a little extra for a good food isn't to much to ask, your fish vwill thank you for it with a good, long healthy life:)

.........and plenty of fresh, clean water, so crank out those water changes people!
Yes thats the other thing water but most of all keep out water clean right???lol There are growth inhibiting enzymes in the water so water changes is a must! Or a drip system...lol

I don't feed pellets. That's probably part of the reason my bill is high.

I was at the point of doing two near one hundred percent water changes on my discus tank this last summer. And I saw how much better they looked than the every other day fifty percent that they're on now.

I think my parents have a countdown going until I move out...

I have to say my costs in the wintertime double for feeding . ( grounds frozen ) this month I decided to save all my receipts just to see what I actually spend on food. So far $62.00. after seeing this ive decided that my fish do not need to eat every day as much as I have so much fun throwing in one pellet at a time to watch their heads pop out of the water . They are all too fat anyhow . Maybe that will reduce my water costs as well . My problem is if I don't feed my fish nightcrawlers at least once a week ( they eat 30 at a time ) they have little tantrums and soak my floor. .. I'm not sure how they can figure out if its been 7 days but they do . Fish are smarter than people give them credit for .

LMAO, thanks for the laugh, best one I have had in a very long time. Probably the 100th brand fish food that Forrest has gotten behind here, and on you tube since he started keeping cichlids a few years ago. :) Nothing personal Forrest, just sayin .....

There is a reason why food designed for Koi contains ingredients such as rice, wheat germ meal, and more wheat.

Well said. While genetics plays a major role in all life forms, to say that the value of everything else equals 10% or less of a fishes overall health, or that all foods do the same thing, is ridiculous.
If that was the case I would be feeding my dogs kibbles & bits, or some other equally low cost dry dog food, ditto my fish, kids, grandkids, and anyone else who was unfortunate enough to eat here. Just think of all of the money I have been wasting on quality foods over the years, I could have just been feeding everything corn-dogs.

I don't get it what's wrong with what he does? He used to use southern delight I think...

Pick a brand, any brand, Forrest has endorsed and sworn by them all since he began keeping fish, and posting here on MFK. I suppose most of the people that would appreciate the humor, no longer post here.
