I apologize for the multiple threads I've started lately but I always like to make sure I'm making good choices with my tanks. So I took a visit to one of my many lfs today and they had pretty large Tiger Barbs (largest looks around 3"). The largest I've seen at a store here yet. I'm looking at some potential dithers for my current cichlid growout tank. I was leaning towards Buenos Aires Tetras however the Tigers are a great size for the price and do interest me. The other option are rainbowfish, but their potential size could pose an issue if I need a large school in at least a 75 gallon. The cichlids are a JD, Carpintis, and FM. All 3.5" or smaller and in a 60 gallon which will be upgraded to a larger undecided size. There are tall and floating plants and rocks for cover. As always thanks for the help.

Out of the 3 I would go with the tiger barbs, personally wouldn't combine Columbian Tetra's with CA cichlids.

My mistake Buenos Aires tetra's may be tough enough, my choice is still the Tiger Barbs.:D

Barbs can be nippy, same with the BA tetras ime. That being said, I have 8 tigers in with my 7 convict growouts. I've discovered that with a large enough school, they basically just harass the piss out of each other. I'd post a pic but as I mentioned in the favorite cichlid thread, the power went out on this half of town and all my bubblers are packed up in boxes at the new house across town haha

Haha my power just stayed on. What size grout would you say?

not calling your judgement into question, but the very biggest tiger barb ive seen has been 2 inches at best; and they were chunky as get out lol

They weren't all that large but 2 or 3 of them are huge for barbs. If they're gone before I make it back to the store would a group of younger ones last in my tank?
