12.5 gal mini waterfall pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There has been a little 'splash out' in the front where water was making it out. I believed it was because the pump was pushing too much water to the top. I hooked up a cut off valve to it and turned it down by 60%, this appears to have done the trick.

Added Rosys last week. I lightly checked on them this week but didn't see them but also didn't see any bodies. I'm planning on doing an intense search later. I also need to get an updated pic as algae has taken over the waterfall

Finally bgot the updated pic with the nasty algae. It's black and green. To my surprise, it's not in the holding section, which is still clear. I see see the gravel on the bottom.

The Rosys are still there. I dumped food(flakes) in there then stood back about 10 feet. I could see them splashing to get the food.

Well...it has been months since I've seen any evidence of fish activity in my waterfall pond(still put food in). The water is really dirty(even after an 80% water change) and the black algae was very thick on the ledges. So I went ahead and tore it down 2 days ago. I found 6 very fat and healthy looking rosys. I moved them to 5 gallon temp tank. I'm now running bleach through the pond to clean up all that black algae. It's looking pretty good as now. I won't have to do much scrubbing. Hopefully in a weeks time I have it ready to go again. I plan to turn it sideways on the back porch this time to cut down on the direct sunlight. To see how much it helps.

No pics as they haven't fixed that function here on this forum yet.

It's that time of year again to tear it down and clean it. Last time I found 7 rosys still alive out of 10. After I got it going, I saw them for months then they disappeared again. This time the water stayed clear and is clear now but I can't see them or the 2 goldfish I put in there a month ago. I'm 90% sure there are no living fish in there.

I mentioned in another thread that I may start on this project on friday. I did clean out(not clean up) a 20L that will serve as a temp tank if needed.

Here's a picture I took today of it.

I'd be taking all fish out, putting it in a semi shaded area; then putting some white cloud mountain minnows in there :D

I won't be able to tell for sure if there are any fish still alive until I drain it down to at least a gallon and tilt it. I can see at the very front or the very back but not the middle.

Since I only see the fish 1% of the time(during feeding) I'm not picky on whats in it. As long as they stay small and can tolerate the cold and warmth. I chose Rosys because they are cheap, easy to find and have survived the outdoor conditions. Not even sure where locally to find cloud mountain minnows or their basic conditions.

Well... I finally tore this waterfall thingie apart and bleached it(it's running right now).

Found a goldfish alive in it. Ended up using a 18 gallon rubbermaid to hold the goldfish instead of the planned 20L

Been letting it cycle (nearly 2 weeks now). Goldfish is still in the tote(oddly he always hides(I've never seen him out swimming))
