This was surprising ....I bought pellegrini as pellegrini

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pellegrini are rare only Steindachneri are available.
That's the Redhump, Ja? We have those, Brasiliensis, Balzanii, and "Surinamensis" which is supposedly Altifrons, but IDK....I don't see too much outside those couple species but I bet I could special order some. These are the 1st pellegrini I ever saw though. Ordered a another pair of Balzanii last week....supposed to have 2 F for every male so I did, but now I think my pair of Brasiliensis needs a 2nd female too. Ironically ordered a male "Surinamensis" too so I will probably end up with a mate for my Altifrons

Check out big male Brasiliensis.....they look like big male GTs w/out the orange....super badass

Yeah those are the species that are available in my area too. Are you going to keep the Balzanii in a aquarium of their own for the cool down periods?

Uhm, I'm not sure how I'm goin to work it yet, but I know I have another year to figure it out, cuz she's only 2.5", but atm, she's in w/ my pair of Brasiliensis and a EBJD (last one alive) and molly/platy/guppy/danio/TB/catfish

U ever kept Balzanii before?

Yes only for a short time arrived in bad shape from Petsolutions.

No more like 2 wks so you are doing well. :)
GEE, that's comforting. oh well, we got Duanes lol I WISH I knew fish like I know reptiles. :( I'm ready to tear down the whole tank anyway, all 20 caves, 40-50 plants and 20+ fish to upgrade to a 55g that I'm borderline ready to go run to Petco and buy for a dollar-per gallon tomorrow before fishing season starts on Saturday. If it pours like it' supposed to I might be stuck in the house anyway. PPPSssssshhh whatever

Yes Duanes is the go to member when it comes to cichlids from regions like Balzanii. :)

Balzanii is apparently so weird that previous cichlid keeping experience appears to count for SO little when keeping these things. I saw pix of a pair and both have male-humps.....you cant even tell them apart, but other literature I read says the females don't GET a hump at all. Now we're doing 50-60F water temps? ....and they don't seem to come to the surface to feed either, all 3 Geos in that tank wait for pellets and food that sinks and haven't learned by watching the EBJDs or the dithers. Shoot, I even have CATFISH in that tank that surface-feed, but not Geos/Gymnos

I will be setting up a 40 gallon breeder I got last year from Petco very soon for the almost 200 EBA fry . I have been losing a couple daily but that's expected.
