Marble motoro gestation periods

The pair are the only rays in the tank 8x4x2.5

should b ok... id prob still seperate the fem tho with a divider... not that great when a fem drops and gets knocked up in the same day. sure it happens but they can take it pretty hard and not eat for a few days-week after. when my fem is alone to birth shell eat same day. only other advice i can give is have ur pup box ready to go all drilled and in the tank. not fun swappin pups around in containers and no place to put em. just did it a few days ago haha... i was more prepared my 1st 2 batches with a pup tank chained into the adults system. moved tanks this round and went with a rubbermaid tote attached to the top braces of the tank. ive also seen noodles used to float a pup box or even plastic pop bottles/capped attached to a tote

I already have a tub drilled i plan to float with plastic bottles..... hes not aggressive towards her so im not gonna seperate them especially since they have a decent amount of space.......if he does then ill divide them but i doubt he will knowing him

He probably doesn't because he is young still. In another year or 2 you will probably be dividing. You won't be able to keep him off her whether she is prego or not.

Size means nothing for age really. Marbles can hit 12" in 2 years or less if given the right conditions and diet. That's still real young. Anything under 5-6 years old is pretty young for rays. Typically once a male hits about 5-6 years old they want to breed all the time with whatever is available regardless of space, regardless if prego or not. That's why it's been suggested earlier on in the thread it is wise to divide females off.

ive had 3 marble batches thus far... 1st one was 160 days...2nd batch was around 180days....and my last at 150ish... id say anywhere between 4-6 months depending on if shes alone or not. if u seperate her from ur male shell hold a bit longer.
Normally I would have disagreed with you on time frame for marbles but this time round my female has been holding for around 150 days so far. Previously it has always been 120 days. Weird thing is this time around there has been more stress than ever.
I'm almost starting to wonder if she was prego (I did not seperate at first) then male made her abort early and bred her again without me knowing...

i hear ya, average seems to be 130-140 days i agree... i was in disbelief myself on my 1st batch at 167 days, i began to think pups were dead inside... 2nd batch was even longer at 183 but i kept a close eye on days to have accurate documentation from visual sperm plug to birth. Threw me off so much i expected to have another month this time and was def surprised at around 150 days. i had caught my male buggin my fem to breed before i left for work that morning...8 hrs later i had pups (my 1st day birth also) smh for not seperatin her this past batch sooner. i know it was early for her and most def. forced. i consider myself lucky as all pups were bigger than previous batches, fat, healthy and no yolk sacks... what baffles me is 150 days and this was my biggest litter for #'s and size but shortest gestation period.

maybe food intake can speed up or slow down the process or age of mom? my birthing mom is my only ray exclusively on tilapia, she was wc. id wager a pellet eating mom would get better nutrition and drop sooner.

You could be onto something there with nutrition. Like I mentioned previously in my case there has been alot more stress this time around. There has been at least 3 instances where my female has not eaten for at least a week each time. I know the pups have to be small still. I can barely see movement. May not be down to days at all maybe all about pup development. If they are big and ready, they drop early, if they are small and underdeveloped they drop late. Just a theory.

I like ur logic lol...and have 2 agree...seems its all to due with nutrition/stress for how quickly pups develop more so than set days. makes sense. ive seen the same scenario ur tellin me. 1st cple batches for me my girl took a few days-week hunger strike outta nowhere aswell where as my latest batch she ate aloot everyday. def evidence for ur theory in my eyes.
