Hello new to the site but not to aquariums. Was just looking some some opinions on what the biggest catfish I could comfortably fit in a 48x24x24 roughly 120 gallons I believe. He or she will be alone possibly with a pelco of some sort.

Biggest you can fit, something that maxes out at 2' lol, biggest you can comfortable fit, I'd say go no larger than 18" fish, depending on the species on whether or not it's a long whispered skittish cat. I always wanted a wyckii lol. Why not do some schooling species of cat? Like ornate pims, sun cats, 4-line pims, you can possibly do a few of each if filtration is up to par. A lot of people get bored with one fish. If you're looking for a fish that isn't gonna be comfortable then I'd say do one that is less active like a wyckii. That's my favorite catfish. Though there have been individuals caught up to 28-30" they rarely grow past 24", arapaimag didn't grow one past 24" in his huge tanks. One stopped at 22". Depends on the individual.

I appreciate the advice. I was also thinking around that 18-20" range. Not really too familiar with medium to large cats. Is there any reputable sellers online? I don't believe I can get any around here.

You could get a Cephalosilurus apurensis (40-45cm), or Hemibagrus nemurus (30cm)
I believe TBTB had a nemurus in a large pond a while back and didn't grow past 30cm

Love the jelly cats. A lot of the more uncommon fish can be hard to come by. What I do is I find a few sites that have them listed but out of stock, and just sign myself up for alert emails for when they get them in.

You can also try Toyin at Rehobothaquatics.com, he's the man for some great rare fish. Not sure if this is one he'd have in. You have to email him directly though, the website isn't updated anymore.
