Hi, I'm Izzy I'm new to the forum and have just joined today as I think it will be useful to get advice and information from people with experience :) I hope this is in the right place etc and I apologise if it isn't!
This is just in theory and I don't even have the tank yet! These are just some questions and ideas to get me started. What would be some good fish + numbers for an 175 gallon tank? I want a predator tank but I only know of a few types of fish I could put in a 175 that would work. In theory what fish and numbers of would work in this size tank if any! Or is this tank just too small for monster fish! Thankyou for taking the time to reply :))

Welcome to MFK. What type of fish do you want? Cichlids? Polys? Other monsters? The dimensions of the tank you want may limit what you can keep.
Are you looking for grouping fish, a single big predator or various fish.

A group of 6 link tail chalceus would be pretty cool and busy

Hi! And thanks for the reply, I would like some different types of large fish and make the most of the space! The fish I was looking at were black ghost knife fish, maybe some freshwater Ray's etc. Just some cool looking big fish. I'm open to pretty much anything just as long as it's suitable to put in the tank! I want a mix of different types though not just a species only :)

Hi and Thankyou for the reply! I am looking at various fish at the moment but I'm open to lots of things, I just want to make the most of the space and get some cool fish that I wouldn't be able to get in a smaller tank! I'm not sure of the dimensions but it's just a standard rectangle shape like most tanks just larger! I know that's not terribly helpful but I'll get the exact measurements asap :) I had a look at those pink tail chalceus and they are cool! But would that be the only thing I would be able to put in there?

Maybe some mini marbled rays depending on deminsions and jardini

Not at all. They bicker among themselves but a group of 6 will not bother anyone. One thing i have learned though is that the other fish should also be quick since mine eats everything that hits the water

Mini marbles can get up a foot so anything 2 foot wide is great.

Cichlids are very personable, and some species get large. I think you would really enjoy some larger ones like Severums. BGKs are amazing fish. Get one if you can. They're one of the less agressive knives, so any aggression in the tank would come from other fish. If you want rays you'll have to keep up with the water changes and you'll need to know the dimensions of the tank. Rays need a large footprint, but not hight.
