Not another 'Guess what's in the bag?' thread.... lol

Not directed to endli complex specifically. I chose to put in Dabola and sp. Dabola for a reason .These undetermined specie have been labeled this way from dealers all over the world. There are so many examples of these labels because not much is known about these .

The same uncertainty with the sp. Faranah complex. Huge difference in appearance for same collection locale. One may look like an endli while the other looks more like a lap for sp. Faranah
Dabola and sp. Dabola are the same fish. It's the same situation as Koliba and sp. Koliba. The same fish, but we just tend to leave the sp. out

Oh so I agree with dr b

Usuage for ALL 4 have been used pre 2006 thru 2016. Will somebody hand me a sharpie to cross a few off? =)

A. Sp. Faranah
B. Faranah
C. Sp. Dabola
E. Dabola

Im still confused, i got a endlicheri dabola(tinkisso river) few weeks ago, and it look way different from the sp. dabolas ive seen. Most sp. dabola ive seen has a lap head and a endli pattern.

Polyaddict- My post above is not referencing endli.

It's regarding the lap complex and undetermined species. There's Faranah Laps and sp. Faranah, but no sp. Dabola, but there's Dabola.

Just stating how we identified polys in the past for all four (a., b., c., d.) Based on our Identification history. All 4 do exist :-)

I'm not sure where your getting that Dabola and sp. Dabola are a different fish. I've never seen them specifically labeled as Polypterus Dabola. Even if you are just going off of the laps, I've never seen Polypterus lapradei sp. Dabola, indicating that it's a lapradei caught in Dabola. Again, I'm also not sure where you've seen Polypterus Dabola. Don't get me wrong I've also seen the phrase "Polypterus Dabola", but it's the same fish as sp. Dabola just with the sp. left out. As for sp. faranah and faranah laps. They are also the same thing. Just another way we hobbyists have shortened the term. The correct label for a faranah lap is technically Polypterus lapradei sp. faranah, but we also just call them faranah laps for short. Now if your talking about sp. faranah as an undescribed species I still have only seen a fish labeled that once. It was ADC when they labeled it sp. faranah, because it was a fish from faranah, but they couldn't ID it because of the faint patterns.

Sp. Farahah and Faranah - SAME
Sp. Dabola ad Dabola - SAME

So, this is established. Just stating how these polys have been labeled in the past. Not to provide any more confusion. I'll leave it at that.

Back to DMD's What's in the Bag. I believe it resembles a Polypterus Dabola, 'Undescribed specie'. That is my opinion at this time. It doesn't look like any Faranah Lap i've seen. See for yourself. Google in the word 'Faranah Lapredei or lap'. Those all have a certain look to them. Smaller head like a lapredei and vertical markings start in the middle of their body. Plus, they don't get that muddied dark green shade that covers their body markings.

Dabola have this green cloak to their scales that will cover their patterns and posses a gigantic long serpent head. Below are pics of Dabola. Compare those to DMD's fish. What are your opinions at this present time?

I'm not sure if I mentioned this in here, but as Toyin told me, the fish he has recently gotten in as faranah laps resemble the fish he got in as sp. Dabola before faranah fish were offered. So there's a good chance that is what a few years ago, we would've considered sp. Dabola.

Also don't necessarily thinks it's true that there's always a darker/green cope covering the patterns. I think it's just the darker bottoms/environment the ones you posted pics of are in. I know I got the same fish as DMD and mine is relatively lighter than the ones you posted pics of. But I do agree with the assessment that this fish looks similar to the fish we've gotten used to as sp. Daboa.
