and regarding kessil, finnex etc; what are the tank dimensions again? Those are big name, expensive lighting brands; you may get similar results (or better) from something more cost effective, there is such a thing as too much light, which is more likely with finnex and kessil than not; all comes down to the strength of the light, tank height etc

Sorry, thread is pretty long and don't have the time to search back. Id go for 9w, on either an led lamp or bar, see how that goes. Just what I'd do though, then I'd adjust light duration, height from tank based on algae.

What led are the ones you're looking at?

Either a 24" finnex or a kessil tuna sun. Like I said, the only reason I would get a kessil is if it can grow plants that I really like.

I plan on having algae, since, from what I've read, Otos love to snack on it. I'll try to keep it at a point where the Otos have enough to snack on, but it's not taking over the tank.
 
Are there any other carpeting plants or background plants that may need more light than the ones already mentioned? I would only get a kessil if I find some plants that I like that require more light than a finnex can provide.
