You never asked the question to any of them, "is a container that once contained soap that has been washed safe to use?" You simply stated "would you put soap in your tank" and the answer to that is obvious

So with your logic of it doesnt matter how much soap would showering in a lake not kill every fish? No because it doesnt reach a harmful concentration. So after a bucket is thoroughly cleaned the amount of potential resI due would not be harmful

So with your logic of it doesnt matter how much soap would showering in a lake not kill every fish? No because it doesnt reach a harmful concentration. So after a bucket is thoroughly cleaned the amount of potential resI due would not be harmful

I know if I invest thousands of $$$ into a tank, I want my risk-factor to be as MINIMAL as possible - don't we ALREADY have enough things that pose a threat to our tanks as it is? Why make more of them?

Why not just make life easier?

I'm not positive on the physics of it, but what if soap residue is like Mercury or PCBs and they build up in your tank over time? That would be very very very VERY not good

But I have thought about people bathing in lakes or rivers, I agree it could have adverse effects or none at all, depending on dilution levels

90% of the 5 gallon buckets you are using on your tank have been reused that once contained some form of product or chemical or manufactured using chemicals that you cannot even pronounce. I'm not saying put soap in your tank, I'm saying there's nothing wrong with cleaning something that once contained soap then using for or around the tank. I'm sure many members here have used muriatic acid to clean saltwater equipment, commonly found in toilet bowl cleaner. Would you put toilet bowl cleaner on your tank? Probably not but would you use something on your tank that was once cleaned with it? Absolutely

I know most of my 5 gallon pails came from chlorine puck containers or pool shock...never had a problem in all my years with all the species I have kept from stingrays to the extremely sensitive silversides. Why? It comes down to the simple answer that the concentrations are not of a harmful level. Alcohols and vinegars can be harmful to aquatic life but the chances of reaching a harmful concentration are minimal

I get my empty buckets from the Bakery in grocery stores, they have only had icing or donut fillings (jelly, boston crème, etc).

I am VERY anal about what goes into my tanks......haven't you noticed?

Mercury builds up within the fish not the water column in the same way pestivideo build up in fish. Mostly through bioaccumulation
