EMF Radiation aquarium pumps

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So we are constantly enradiating our fish with radiatio caused by motors? Im taking this with a pinch of salt
...and the impact on fish, living within inches of this effect?
I just found a very large scientific study of EMF impact on fish. Underground electric cables effect on marine life were studied. Some marine animals are sensitive to emf and some are not.

see link https://tethys.pnnl.gov/sites/defau..._Electromagnetic_Fields_on_Marine_Species.pdf

a few quotes....

page 6:
"Formicki and Winnicki (1998) exposed brown trout (Salmo trutta) and rainbow trout to similar constant, low level magnetic B-fields (0 to 13 mG [0 G to 0.013 G, respectively]) to the aforementioned study. Results showed this exposure slowed the embryonic development of both species. Furthermore, in this same study, Formicki and Winnicki found B-fields also induced change in the circulation of embryos and larvae of pike (Esox lucius) and carp (Cyprinus carpio), as well as in the embryos of brown trout. Formicki and Winnicki concluded that while intensity of breathing processes increase in a magnetic field, they concluded it was dependent on the stage of embryonic development and was especially manifested in the period of an advanced organogenesis."

page 7- "Eels exhibited some sensitivity to EMF (Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies (CMACS) 2003). Magnetosensitivity of the Japanese eel (A. japonica) was examined in laboratory conditions (Nishi et al. 2004). This species was exposed to B-fields ranging from 12,663 to 192,473 nT (0.12663G to 0.192473 G). After 10 to 40 conditioning runs, all the eels exhibited a significant conditioned response (i.e. slowing of the heartbeat) to a 192,473 nT (0.192473 G) B-field. Researchers concluded that the Japanese eel is magnetosensitive."

PJ1- <Now you're just being foolish. Read a little more about Ca and its role in just about every cellular function...
A change from the tabloid reading to some credible sources would leave you much better off than your nuclear fish tank theory.>

Actually PJ1 Timothy's Syndrome is on my son's genetic deletion at chromosome 12p13. Timothy's Syndrome is Autism and heart defects due to a disruption of the calcium channel resulting in too much calcium in the cell. The fact that EMF field's affect the calcium and potassium channels in humans interests me because it deals with a topic I understand.

I found out my son has a very rare genetic deletion 17 years ago and I wanted to understand my son's health problems and if there were ways I could help him or things I should avoid or treatments I could pursue for him. For the last 17 years I spent thousands on medical books - biochemistry, genetics, calcium channels, channelopathies, adrenergic receptors, immunology, thymectomy, neurobiology, neurpotrophic factors in disease, alzheimers and more. I have also spent countless hours on medical sites reading about my son's genetic deletion and contacted doctors across the globe on his behalf.

This doesn't make me an expert but it does make me curious and cautious about EMF.

Does the meter move with the pumps unplugged?
Yes and no. When the main return pumps (sump pumps and fluval fx5) are unplugged the meter reads zero then when they are plugged in the meter reads 30-100+. When the magnetically attached air pumps are unplugged the meter reads 5 but when they are plugged in the meter reads 30-100+.

Or perhaps your husband just sold you an excellent line about EMF impotence. Good for him.

This is a great read. As a technician trained to operate and maintain a high power radar, this is all very interesting to me. In my opinion, I think the amounts of EMR that we are likely to come into contact with on a daily basis poses little, if any, health risk to us or our fish.
