I need some opinions, maybe even some brainstorming from the smart mind that seem to buzz around this thread.

I've been looking at different carpet plants but none of them are really "jumping out" at me so to speak. At first I wanted lilaeopsis (sp?) but have since decided against it because keeping it in one area just seems like more trouble than its worth.

So now I'm thinking a crypt carpet (mainly because if a plant pops up somewhere its not wanted I can just pluck it out) and think that would look cool but I also want high light plants, so my question is, how do I keep duckweed (or similar) covering only the crypts?

I was thinking about trying to place power heads and what not in such a way that the current keeps it there, but the more I think about this the more difficult I think it would be and the less likely it seems like it will work.

Does anyone have a suggestion about keeping it in one spot? It sort of just does what it wants in my 2ft...

Thanks in advance. :)

if you can get some wood etc to break the surface of the water, I've found that floating plants tend to "stick" around objects breaking the waters surface like that

I would recommend against mixing stuff like Hairgrass with other carpeting plants, coz once they get tangled up its quite unsightly... I tore out my old carpet in my planted for that very reason...
I was only going to use one of those.

You can say that again.. :p I'm seriously considering ditching "plant substrate" and just using normally substrate while going crazy on the root tabs.

The best plant substrate I can get without going online is "fluorite" and that costs a packet! Literally, the small bags down here go for $45-$60 depending on the store (one of the store owners loves me and told me he would give me a bag for $35 but still) I honestly don't know if I can justify it to myself to spend that much money on "plant gravel".

convict360 convict360 would it work if I just use normal substrate and used a balls ton of root tabs? Surely $50 bags of substrate aren't a necessity, sure they might help but they can't be absolutely essential... Can they?

Before someone links me to Amazon or similar, I really don't like buying online if I can help it, if some feral kid ripped up my expensive gravel I'd end up in prison, and if something sits in my mail box for longer than 15mins, feral kids WILL destroy it. Hence why my online shopping is minimal. :(
....you have feral children?

I am planning on doing a goldfish proof scape. i have heard they dont eat java fern, does it survive at lower temps? (19-22 celcius)

Hmm, I've heard they do eat moss; no experience with them and it in the same tank though. Large tank? Goldfish are really not suited for nano's...

Damn it! All that betta talk and I was determined to NOT get another betta, I couldn't, I'm already converting one hospital tank into a display tank, and it wasn't that long ago that I lost Bruce... But... I was in the store today picking up a pleco (now named Sir Elton John II, or Sir Elton for short) and I seen the most beautiful betta.. I pick him up tomorrow, he was stunning and full of "swag"... How could I not love him? :P

They're not mine!!! If they were I'd wallop the feral c**ts until they didn't want to destroy other peoples property through fear of my wrath! And I can't wallop their parents because idk who their parents are.

I think I'll avoid getting kids until I'm AT LEAST 35 haha
