Attempting to grow a large specimen Beani

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You seem to get extraordinary growth on all of your fish. Do you use sumps for filtration? What is your water change schedule like? I know you always stock prudently and that's got to help with the growth.

That Rio Panuco is a stunner!!! You got a nice collection going on Andy!!

Update.. Things not going to plan. The fish I selected to grow on has stopped feeding and has white stringy. He hasn't grown at all.
All others still in my little fish room are growing nicely. How come its always your favorite fish that gets sick lol

**** Bloat, follow RD. RD. way to cure it with Epsom salt.
Thank you. I'm a big fan on Epsom salt treatment.
I've had good results with my partners flowerhorn. He had the white stringy poo and never ate for 8 weeks. I nearly gave up on the poor little guy.
Epsom salts solution with a little API general cure mixed in, straight into the stomache with a pipette. Did this for 3 days, then after 2 Weeks another 3 days. Seemed ages before he got better, but he's now 100%
Before and after pics.

Beanii come from the northern west coast of Mexico where night time temps can get down into the 50s'F. This keeps "average" water temps in the area lower than many tropical species
I have found that keeping beani in cool water temps around 70'F kept them from getting bacterial infections.
The only time I had trouble was when I had a summer heat wave, and my water temps hit @80'F. After some experience with them, I pulled all heaters from their tanks, and let room temps be the norm, I also believe having temps fluctuate between cool nights and warmer days might be what they might experience, and have evolved in, in nature.
They don't grow as fast, but their general health seems much better.
When my beani spawned, temp was only 68'F.

This may be an ignorant question - but how are you getting the Epsom salts solution into the fishes stomach with a pipette? Are you netting the fish each time or does it come to the pipette to feed?
