New Aquarium Stocking Suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can take any established filter media and simply squeeze it into the new tank water. You don't even have to access the filter. You don't even have to look at the filter. You don't even have to look at the filter and make funny faces at it.
Well then what fun is that? :(

No, that is a year out when I move and get a larger tank. I worry that it would outgrow my setup before a year's time. Also worried that my Ctenopoma would pick on it in the smaller footprint. But it WILL happen. Stay tuned. ;)

I've never ordered fish online - you could get a replacement even if they die from a new tank and not because a fish is faulty? My LFS will only replace fish that die with a water sample first. ;)

LOL!

Sadly I had to go to my local pet store I ordered them from there due to shipping cost and getting a discount. :) But surpringly they don't request a water sample. Polleni is a nice fish! I never seen or heard of one until you 2 mentioned it..

Yes, they are gorgeous, aren't overly aggressive to other non-pollenis (for a cichlid), and don't decimate plants. But they really should be in like a 90 gallon, and I only have a 65 (with a 3-foot footprint, which is the true issue with my current tank.)

I have a minor obsession. LOL

Think of them as the Oscars of Madagascar. Enormous personality and appetite. They're really more like a South American fish than a typical African Rift cichlid. They're also very hardy and can accept a vast array of water chemistry and they're absolutely beautiful. I intend on starting a harem of them once I move into my house this year :)

Of course! Hey you are into Bichirs too right? I don't know anything about them but I really would like an Ornate. Do you think they would get on with cichlids that hang out at the top okay?

Yes, very much into bichirs! They don't really bother anyone that isn't snack-sized or another bichir, and that interspecies aggression is hit or miss depending on the personality of the bichir. I think Ornates can be a little more aggressive to other bichirs in general, from what I've read, but if you just want one (which is hard to do, they are addictive IMO) an Ornate would be cool. They are beautiful. Of course many people keep ornates with others, too. The poly peeps can help set you up for success if you want a few including an ornate.

I do plan on having my someday Polleni with a pile of polys. :)
